Progress in reducing breast cancer deaths may be under threat, a leading charity has warned, as figures reveal more than 10,000 fewer patients in England started treatment for the disease in the past year compared with the year before.
According to an analysis of NHS England figures by Cancer Research UK (CRUK), about 38,000 fewer cancer patients began treatment between April 2020 and March 2021, compared with the same period a year earlier. Just under 28% of these were breast cancer patients, equating to about 10,600 people.
