Hundreds ordered to evacuate Scottish town over Storm Babet flood fears

More than 400 households in Brechin and nearby villages told to leave, as Met Office issues rare ‘danger to life’ red weather alert

Hundreds of people have been ordered to evacuate their homes in a town in eastern Scotland, as fears grow that the River Esk will burst its banks during Storm Babet.

More than 400 properties in Brechin in Angus – and in the villages of Tannadice and Finavon – have been told to leave their homes, with flood defences expected to be breached within 24 hours.
