Pragmatic Semiconductor appoints ex-Intel exec as CEO

UK microchip company Pragmatic Semiconductor has appointed a new chief executive who will replace co-founder Scott White.

David Moore, a veteran of the semiconductor industry, will assume the role of CEO at Pragmatic. Moore most recently served as the chief strategy officer at the Nasdaq-listed chip firm Micron Technology. Prior to Micron, Moore worked in a number of executive roles at the chip giant Intel over a six-year period.

“I am delighted to welcome Dave to Pragmatic at this exciting time for the company,” said Pragmatic Semiconductor chairman Erik Langaker.

“I am confident that he will enable Pragmatic to scale its foundry capacity to become a global leader in the semiconductor industry and will be instrumental in helping us achieve our vision of electronics in everything.”

Scott White has served as CEO of Pragmatic Semiconductor since its formation in 2010. After 13 years in the position, White will now take the role of executive director of strategic initiatives and will retain his seat on the board.

“The board and I would like to express our gratitude to Scott for the hard work and commitment he has shown in leading the business,” Langaker added.

“Under his leadership the company has gone from its inception 12 years ago to where it is now. It has a blue-chip partner and customer base, with a clear demand for Pragmatic’s flexible integrated circuits.”

Pragmatic, which manufactures flexible integrated circuits thinner than human hair, raised £28m in December of last year, adding to its $125m Series C round.

The company has been outspoken in calling on the UK government to publish the long-awaited semiconductor strategy.

Pragmatic co-founder and CTO Richard Pirce previously told UKTN that the UK  should play to its existing strengths in the semiconductor industry rather than trying to directly compete with China, Taiwan, and the US.
