Liverpool-based investor Baltic Ventures has launched its 2024 accelerator programme with plans to back 12 UK startups.
The group has opened applications for its 2024 cohort, with each startup to receive mentoring and networking opportunities along with a £30,000 investment.
The announcement from Baltic follows the group launching its first accelerator programme last year at tech event Liverpool Slush’D. Baltic Ventures said its 2023 cohort went on to raise £5.7m in follow-on funding.
“Last year, we were inundated with applications from ambitious founding teams across the UK,” said Baltic Ventures programme director Mo Aldalou.
“We’re incredibly excited to open applications for our second annual programme and look forward to welcoming a cohort of ambitious, passionate, and dynamic founding teams on their scaling journeys.”
The Baltic Ventures accelerator programme is backed by £4.1m from the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority. The funding, granted in 2023, was deployed to create accelerator programmes over the next five years.
“We invested in Baltic Ventures to support our ambition to make Liverpool City Region a national and world leader in innovation,” said Dr Aileen Jones, executive director for investment and delivery at the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority.
“Programmes like this accelerator help our local tech firms to succeed and create a supportive and attractive environment for businesses looking to relocate.”
Startups previously backed by Baltic Ventures include clothing trade-in site Birl, neurodivergent education platform Gaia Learning and AI nutritional guidance tool Hexis.
