Fintech Tide appoints UK and Europe CEO

Fintech company Tide has appointed a UK and Europe CEO as the company prioritises expansion into international regions.

George Schmidt, a former SVP of acquisition marketing at Tide, has been named CEO of UK/Europe, reporting to Tide chief executive Oliver Prill.

The appointment follows the company’s launch in Germany earlier this month. As a regional CEO, Schmidt will cover the local operating remit for Tide in the UK and Europe. In addition to its presence in Germany, Tide also has a European office in Bulgaria.

“[Schmidt’s] rise through the ranks is testament to Tide’s commitment to enabling talented people to grow and flourish into senior roles,” said Prill.

“I am confident that under George’s leadership, our growth in the UK will continue, and our entry into the German market will be a resounding success.”

Founded in 2015, Tide provides financial management tools and business banking accounts to SMEs. Schmidt joined the company in 2017.

“I look forward to working with Oliver and the senior leadership team to deliver continued growth in the UK and develop a successful German business,” said Schmidt.

“Like the UK previously, SME financial services in Germany is dominated by large traditional banks.

“We will bring our experience from the UK, and our simple, highly innovative offer, to help small businesses there. We are excited about the prospects for growth in Germany.”

The appointment marks the second regional CEO recruited by the London-based fintech. In 2021, Gurjodhpal Singh became Tide’s India CEO.
