Podcast: Why Welsh tech is primed for growth – Tramshed Tech’s Louise Harris

In this episode of the UKTN Podcast, Tramshed Tech co-founder and CEO Louise Harris discusses the challenges and opportunities for the Welsh tech sector, unpacks the country’s tech sub-sector strengths from semiconductors to creative, and explains what a changing political landscape might mean for businesses.

Harris co-founded Tramshed, a co-working space for tech and digital startups, with Mark John in 2015. It now has six co-working sites across Wales and provides startup support through programmes on topics such as investor readiness and exports.

“What we’re hoping to achieve here in Wales is to build a vibrant and thriving tech ecosystem,” says Harris.

During the episode, Harris dives into the localised factors affecting Welsh tech sector growth and explains why she would like to see more trust in “regional knowledge” for tech sectors across the UK.

Elsewhere, Harris – who is also a member of the Welsh Government International Strategy Board and the UK Tech Cluster Group – gives her view on what the new political situation might mean for the Welsh tech sector.

“I think having a new first minister, Vaughan Gething, who has been economy minister, who understands business, has worked alongside the tech sector for a number of years now, is a real opportunity for Wales,” says Harris.

Tramshed is supported by strategic partners in the UK and Europe, including Google for Startups, Microsoft, Barclays Eagle Labs and SQY.
