London Tech Week 2023: Agenda, key speakers and look ahead

London Tech Week has returned for its 10th year with an action-packed 2023 agenda bringing together industry experts and entrepreneurs from across the world.

The week-long event kicks off today at the Queen Elizabeth II Centre in London, where more than 30,000 people are expected to attend, including over 3,500 startups and more than 850 investors.

From politicians including Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and Mayor of London Sadiq Khan, to executives at companies such as Google DeepMind and Darktrace, London Tech Week 2023 has a stellar lineup of speakers.

Throughout the week, stakeholders will take to the stage to discuss topics including UK entrepreneurship, climate tech, the metaverse and, of course, the latest tech buzzword – generative AI.

London Tech Week has three core days plus dozens of fringe events. The full schedule can be found here, but UKTN has compiled a top-level look at some of the highlights for London Tech Week 2023.

London Tech Week agenda 2023

LTW 2023: Day one

Day one of London Tech Week 2023 begins on Monday 12 June with a welcome address at 08:55 AM from Carolyn Dawson OBE, the chief executive of Founders Forum on the Main Stage.

This will be followed by a fireside chat between the prime minister and Demis Hassabis, the CEO of Google Deepmind, on the future of AI.

At 09:40 AM the Main Stage will host an entrepreneurship discussion with leaders from SVB UK and HSBC – which recently merged after the collapse of Silicon Valley Bank in the US – along with acting tech secretary Chloe Smith.

Other day one Main Stage highlights include a generative AI keynote speech from Clare Barclay, the CEO of Microsoft UK. As an executive at one of the core firms driving the development and adoption of the exciting technology, Barclay will be discussing how we can prepare for the sector’s next wave.

Rounding off the Main Stage keynotes is a cybersecurity discussion featuring Darktrace’s Poppy Gustafsson and 1Password’s Jeff Shiner at 10:50 AM.

Things get underway on the Startup Main Stage at 11:30 AM with opening remarks from Sophia Tran from Spotlight! Ventures, followed by an address from DSIT permanent secretary Sarah Munby.

Other talks that caught our eye include a panel discussion on scaling with Blackseed Ventures, Blackrock and Kinnevik, a talk on whether web3 faces “demise or triumph”, and a session on practical tips for founders to target the right VC investors.

The day’s events will last until around 5:30 PM, though there will be plenty of networking opportunities after the main talks are done.

LTW 2023: Day two

Day two of London Tech Week opens with a 9:00 AM opening talk from Katie Prescott, the technology business editor at The Times, followed by a short welcome address from Janet Coyle CBE, managing director of business growth at London & Partners.

Later in the day, you can look forward to a keynote discussing the risks and opportunities of generative AI by Lenovo CTO Arthur Hu; a panel on the gap between science and technology featuring the CEO of Oxford Nanopore Technologies and the CEO of insitro; and a talk on virtual communities and the power of human interaction from the co-founder of Flickr and a partner at Patron.xyz.

Other keynote talks of the day include the role of companies in women’s health and championing purpose-driven innovation.

Over on the Startup Main Stage, there will be a panel delving into the personal side of being a founder, while the Impact Stage features a 2:30 PM talk on making meaningful investments into climate tech. The NextTech Stage spends the afternoon exploring the future of the metaverse.

LTW 2023: Day three

Wednesday is the last of London Tech Week’s main days but there’s no shortage of things to see.

Following opening remarks from 08:55 AM, the main stage hosts a conversation between science minister George Freeman and Photonic founder Dr Stephanie Simmons on how to unleash the UK quantum industry.

At 09:55 AM there will be a discussion on future-proofing businesses with fintech with a panel featuring Zopa Bank CEO Jaidev Janardana and RDS Capital’s Daniel Shakhani.

Euan Blair, Multiverse co-founder and son of former Prime Minister Tony Blair, discusses digital skills being at the heart of economic growth in a panel on the Main Stage at 10:30 AM.

Meanwhile, the Impact Stage turns its attention to fixing the talent crisis and improving diversity and inclusion with a series of back-to-back talks from 11:30 AM, including a panel on building a diverse tech team at scale featuring executives from Aviva, Shell, Google, Tech Talent Charter and Code First Girls.

The main talks finish at 5:30 PM to round off the agenda for London Tech Week 2023, but the networking opportunities will continue with plenty of fringe events across the capital for the rest of the week.
