Oxbotica partners with Goggo for autonomous delivery

Oxford-based autonomous driving software startup Oxbotica is partnering with German mobility company Goggo to offer middle-mile delivery services in Europe.

Oxbotica’s partnership with Goggo will initially trial its technology for food deliveries with partner retail businesses in Spain. Vehicles will include safety drivers on board who are ready to take the wheel.

If all goes well, Oxbotica’s tech will be deployed across a wider European delivery network.

“Our collaboration will enable Goggo to provide an unparalleled experience for autonomous middle and last-mile deliveries throughout Europe,” said Yasmine Fage, co-founder and COO of Goggo.

“We were impressed by Oxbotica’s system for autonomy and its outstanding safety standard, and we are excited to see how this collaboration can have a positive impact in the logistics industry, helping some of the critical challenges it faces today.”

While autonomous driving startups have attracted significant financial support, the technology is yet to break into the mainstream. Navigating roads, particularly for last-mile deliveries to doorsteps, is technologically complex and fraught with safety and regulatory challenges.

However, autonomous vehicle and delivery technology have made notable strides in the last couple of years. San Francisco’s Starship has had a fleet of delivery robots on UK streets since 2020, and recently expanded its service to a Greater Manchester town.

And now Oxbotica, off the back of its £115m Series A in January, is ramping up its real-world applications.

“We are thrilled to be working with Goggo to enable businesses in Europe to deploy autonomous vehicle technology sooner for safer and more efficient operations,” said Gavin Jackson, CEO of Oxbotica.

“We look forward to deploying our unique autonomy solution into their mobility network. From Goggo benefitting their fleets being driven by Oxbotica to our ground-breaking virtual testing environment and suite of cloud-based management tools.”
