British automotive manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover is opening three self-driving hubs across Europe and hiring 100 engineers to advance the technology for use in its own vehicles.
The new Jaguar Land Rover self-driving hubs will be situated in Germany, Italy and Spain due to the respected areas’ access to engineering talent.
Thomas Müller, product engineering director at Jaguar Land Rover, said: “We are harnessing talent in autonomous technologies around the world to develop new autonomous technologies for our future products, which will deliver a truly modern luxury experience for our clients.”
A year ago Jaguar Land Rover, a subsidiary of Tata Motors, entered into an agreement with Nvidia to “jointly develop and deliver next-generation automated driving systems”. From 2025 Jaguar Land Rover cars will be assembled using Nvidia’s software.
Nvidia and Jaguar Land Rover’s 2025 goal is shared by the government, which plans to have self-driving vehicles on UK roads the same year.
This week the Law Commission published its review on remote driving within the UK and suggestions on the regulation of the technology.
Driverless vehicle technology is being developed by many UK tech companies such as Microsoft-backed autonomous vehicle company Wayve, self-driving hydrogen truck startup HVS and software company Oxbotica.
