Greenspark raises £1m to help businesses measure climate action

Greenspark has received £1m in seed funding for its platform that encourages businesses to take climate-friendly actions, such as planting trees or offsetting carbon emissions when a customer makes a purchase.

The company will use the funding boost to launch its Climate API, which it says can “integrate impact into any business use case”.

Its other services include a carbon offsetting scheme for employees, which calculates their plastic and carbon footprint and plants trees and provides a dashboard to track a team’s “cumulative positive planet impact”.

“At Greenspark, we’re on a mission to tackle some of the greatest issues facing our planet right now, like climate change, deforestation and plastic pollution,” said Lenny Leemann, co-founder and CEO, Greenspark.

Greenspark said more than 300 businesses use its platform, which has resulted in more than 800,000 trees planted and 1.3 million plastic bottles prevented from going into the ocean.

“We’re bringing a whole new approach to tackling world issues through tools that are not simply altruistic but make business sense,” added Leemann.

The Greenspark seed round was led by Fuel Ventures, with support from Pitchdrive, 1818 Venture Capital, Zone2Boost, Great Stuff Ventures, QC-Ventures and the Boost Fund.

In November 2021, Greenspark raised £450,000 in a pre-seed investment round led by BBVA Anthemis Venture Partnership and Perivoli Innovations.

Wim Derkinderen, managing partner at Pitchdrive, said: “Greenspark makes positive impact more attractive for businesses, which is a very hard nut to crack.

“We were highly impressed with the founders and what they already proved, and can’t wait to see what Greenspark will become over the upcoming months and years when taking care of our environment becomes more urgent than ever before.”

Fuel Ventures this week also led warehouse robotics software maker PHINXT Robotics’ £608,000 pre-seed round.
