Olympic athletes back £2m raise for sports app Runna

Personalised running coach app Runna has raised £1.9m in a funding round that included participation from Olympic athletes and reality TV stars.

Runna provides custom running programmes to users with various skill sets. There are options for complete beginners up to those training for a marathon.

“Everyone at Runna is beyond thrilled with the progress in such a short space of time, and we have to thank our users and investors for their unwavering support,” said Runna co-founder Dom Maskell.

“We’re determined to spread the benefits of running with as many people as possible by making it as accessible as we can to people of all backgrounds, body types and fitness levels.”

The latest funding round for Runna was led by Eka Ventures founding partner, Jon Coker and saw participation from Fortitude and Unbundled VC’s sole partner, Marc Cohen.

The startup has also received investments from British Olympic athlete Stephanie Davis, Made in Chelsea star Joshua Patterson, and Irish rugby union player Gregory O’Shea.

“The backing of Joshua Patterson, Gregory O’Shea and Stephanie Davis, among many others, is a huge endorsement and proof that athletes at peak physical condition are also supportive of our approach and attitude towards running.,” added Maskell.

The total amount raised by the company following the new investment is £2.55m. The company hopes to use the new funding to fuel a launch into the US in 2023.

Runna previously raised £687,000 in seed funding in a crowdfunding campaign on the group investment platform Crowdcube.
