Scotland’s Original Fit Factory buys 8 companies in £112m acquisition spree

Scottish digital fitness brand The Original Fit Factory has bought eight companies in a $137m (£111.6m) acquisition spree as it looks to diversify into multiple areas of digital fitness.

The Glasgow-based company’s acquisitions will see it expand into areas including ecommerce, nutrition, mental health, events, fitness, activewear and virtual tech. The Original Fit Factory launched its core service, the TRUCONNECT fitness community app, in 2016.

Among the companies bought in the acquisitions was Wolfson Brands, an end-to-end ecommerce startup that specialises in sports equipment and wellness products.

The Original Fit Factory also snapped up Smart Protein, which develops food replacement protein products, and Virtual Run, a digital events platform that allows users to compete in races remotely.

Other companies purchased by the Scottish firm include Cool Events, TruFusion, Niyama Sol, Elf at Work, and Battle Ready 360.

The company did not disclose the financial terms of the deals.

“It was the realisation that the fitness and wellness community was strong but splintered which originally inspired me to start the business, and since then the vision has always been to change that through the provision of synergistic products and services with access for all at their core,” said David Weir, founder and CEO of The Original Fit Factory.

“We want to elevate the well-being journey for everyone and so have thought holistically in making these acquisitions, to ensure each business is aligned with our purpose and values, as part of our vision to become the most loved and accessible well-being company on Earth.”

Pierre van Niekerk, CFO at The Original Fit Factory, added: These investments will not only allow us to ensure we have an expanse of wellbeing offerings for customers across the world but will also allow us to focus on driving profitability.”
