Tech firms dominate list of best places to work in UK

Technology companies have dominated a list of the top places to work in the UK in 2022, with US workflow software company ServiceNow coming out on top.

Technology firms accounted for 19 of the top 50 companies to work for, according to job review site Glassdoor’s annual ranking. The trend was even more prevalent in the top ten, with seven tech firms – including Salesforce and Adobe – making the cut.

According to Glassdoor, the places are decided by a company’s “focus on a flexible approach to work-life balance, great company culture, and good career growth”.

California-based SaaS company ServiceNow has been officially crowned as the UK’s Best Place to Work in 2022, with “fantastic culture, the potential for opportunities, and excellent training” cited as the reasons for winning. It’s the first time the company, which opened a London office in 2019, has made the list.

“Being named the winner of Glassdoor’s 14th annual Employees’ Choice Awards, honouring the UK’s Best Places to Work in 2022 is no small feat, especially for a company that has never before featured on our annual list of winners,” adds Glassdoor.

Glassdoor’s top ten places to work in the UK in 2022 are:

  1. ServiceNow – Develops a cloud computing platform to help companies manage digital workflows for enterprise operations.
  2. AND Digital – Works with organisations to accelerate digital delivery, from defining a digital strategy to building digital products.
  3. Salesforce – A cloud computing company that develops CRM solutions and provides business software on a subscription basis.
  4. Immediate Media Company – Offers cross-media publishing services.
  5. Abcam – Helps life scientists with biological reagents and tools that are crucial to research, drug discovery, and diagnostics.
  6. McKinsey & Company – A global management consulting firm and advisor to businesses, governments, and institutions.
  7. Adobe – A software company that provides its users with digital marketing and media solutions.
  8. VMware – A software company providing cloud and virtualisation services that powers complex digital infrastructure.
  9. Arm – Provider of silicon IP and custom SoCs
  10. Meta – A social technology company

Elsewhere, London-based fintech Wise, which became a London-listed public company last year, ranks 20th.

“Our people have had plenty to do over the last year, including a rebrand, a listing, and the pandemic to deal with, so to know our Wisers enjoy working here is such a huge compliment to the business,” said Hayley Bucur, senior people team leader at Wise. “It just goes to prove that we’re able to do great things, and take good care of each other at the same time.”

Other industries to feature prominently in the top 50 include finance, manufacturing, travel and tourism, construction, media, retail, and restaurants.
