Prince Harry takes up new job in a Silicon Valley startup: Chief Impact Officer at BetterUp

Britain’s self-exiled Prince Harry has joined Silicon Valley startup BetterUp, as a Chief Impact Officer. As a member of the BetterUp executive team, the Duke of Sussex will champion the importance of focusing on preventative mental fitness and human potential worldwide.

All-in-one platform

Based out of San Francisco, BetterUp is the global leader in mobile-based professional coaching, counselling, and mentorship.

The company offers an all-in-one platform that combines behavioural science, AI technology, and human interaction to optimise personal growth and professional development in support of a person’s whole health, at work, and in life.

Besides BetterUp, Duke, along with Duchess of Sussex, has signed a multi-year deal with Netflix and Spotify.

Focus on prioritising mental fitness

Alexi Robichaux, CEO of BetterUp, says, “As a true citizen of the world, he has dedicated his life’s work to bringing attention to the diverse needs of people everywhere and advocating for mental health initiatives.”

Prince Harry, The Duke of Sussex, Chief Impact Officer of BetterUp, says, “I firmly believe that focusing on and prioritising our mental fitness unlocks potential and opportunity that we never knew we had inside of us.”

He further adds, “As the Royal Marine Commandos say, ‘It’s a state of mind.’ We all have it in us. Being attuned with your mind, and having a support structure around you, are critical to finding your version of peak performance.”

Prince Harry also said that his mission is to lift up critical dialogues around mental health, build supportive and compassionate communities, and foster an environment for honest and vulnerable conversations.

2000 coaches, 49 languages, 66 countries

With a network of over 2,000 coaches, BetterUp offers coaching in 49 languages across 66 countries, along with interactive professional development content, analytics, and real-time insights to track employee progress.

“I’ve personally found working with a BetterUp coach to be invaluable. I was matched with a truly awesome coach who has given me sound advice and a fresh perspective,” Prince Harry said in a BetterUp blog post.

Last month, BetterUp raised a $125 million (approx £91 million) Series D funding at a valuation of $1.73 billion (approx £1.25 billion). The platform is used by more than 300 companies, including leading Fortune 1,000 companies.
