Revolut launches ATMs to tap into cash-reliant markets

Revolut will open dozens of physical ATM cash machines in a pilot programme to expand its use in cash-reliant markets.

The London-headquartered fintech will launch an initial 50 machines distributed between Madrid and Barcelona, with an additional 150 units to be deployed in other major hubs including Valencia and Málaga.

Revolut chose to start its pilot in Spain because physical cash to this day represents over 60% of point-of-sale payments, according to figures from the Bank of Spain.

The company said the ATMs will be strategically placed in high-footfall locations, with Revolut users able to find their locations via the app.

The European nation is a strong market for the company with just under five million customers.

“Launching our own ATM network is a pivotal step in bringing Revolut’s vision closer to our customers, offering a truly global, seamless financial experience,” said Revolut operating partner Manjot Bhatia.

“By reimagining one of the most essential physical touchpoints in banking, the ATMs, we’re not just providing smarter cash access; we’re strengthening our brand presence, deepening engagement, and setting the foundation for the next phase of our growth across Europe.”

As well as cash withdrawals, the machines will allow foreign currency exchanges and Revolut card dispensing. The company said it plans to integrate facial recognition identity authentication to the machines in the future.

Revolut plans to expand its ATM operations to other markets from 2026, including Germany, Italy and Portugal, which already has Revolut-branded vending machines with which consumers in Portugal can sign up for and receive a Revolut card on the spot.

Revolut did not say whether it plans to bring physical machines to its home market in the UK, however, it may be unlikely as figures from UK Finance suggest only around 4% of British adults predominantly use cash.
