Suella Braverman’s stalled plan to house asylum seekers on a giant barge is facing a major legal hurdle after firefighters launched a judicial review claiming the vessel is a “potential deathtrap”.

The Guardian has seen a formal letter sent by the Fire Brigades Union to the home secretary this weekend that outlines “serious fire and operational safety concerns” on the 220-bedroom Bibby Stockholm, which is docked in Portland, Dorset.
