Swedish edtech startup Sana Labs bags £13M to redefine workplace training with AI

Sana Labs, a Stockholm-based online training platform, raised $18 million (approx £13.1 million) in a Series A round led by EQT Ventures. The funding round brings the total amount raised to $23 million (approx £17 million). The new funding will be used to invest more in technology R&D, sales-focused marketing, and people to make this happen.

Redefining workplace training

Founded by Joel Hellermark in 2016, Sana Labs is setting out to redefine workplace training by using its people-first approach powered by AI. The Swedish company uses machine-learning to personalise online training for multi-sector professionals — meeting a rapidly increasing demand for remote upskilling and reskilling.

People-first approach

With the people-first approach powered by AI, Sana Labs helps organisations plug skills gaps — vital across industries, including healthcare.

Notably, 2,000 hospitals adopted the Sana platform to provide efficient upskilling for over 80,000 healthcare workers on the treatment and prevention of COVID-19.

The company’s platform analysed each nurse’s knowledge gaps and then personalised the learning path accordingly.

World-leading designers, engineers, and researchers

The Sana Lab team consists of world-leading designers, engineers, and researchers hailing from Google AI, BCG Gamma, Harvard, and Spotify. At present, the company’s platform is used by major companies including Novartis, Amgen, Mount Sinai, and PepsiCo for upskilling and reskilling.

“At Sana Labs, our mission is to make learning personalised for everyone. With this injection of capital, we’ll deepen our investment in our people, our technology, and our sales, all in support of bringing Sana to hundreds of millions of learners around the world. We’re looking forward to working with EQT Ventures and realising our vision of personalised learning for all,” says Joel Hellermark, founder and CEO at Sana Labs.

“Sana Labs is advancing on its mission to create a platform that has the potential to revolutionise online learning across the world. Businesses are rapidly accelerating the shift towards AI-driven education that is scalable and individually tailored; no doubt we will see high growth within this industry as the next generation of online learning unfolds. It’s an exciting time to be a part of this learning and upskilling revolution,” says Ted Persson, Partner, EQT Ventures.
