Icy conditions likely to trigger cold weather payments in England and Wales

Fuel poverty charity urges government to provide more support for ‘those at greatest peril’

Freezing temperatures in Britain are expected to trigger cold weather payments for people on the lowest incomes as a fuel poverty charity said support must be increased for the most vulnerable.

Eligible households in England and Wales, where the average temperature has been recorded as – or is forecast to be – 0C or below over seven consecutive days, will receive a government payment of £25.
