EU aims to set up ‘trust fund’ for reconstruction of democratic Ukraine

The European Union aims to establish a “trust fund” for Ukraine while it battles Russia’s invasion and rebuilds afterwards, as the country’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskiy, told Italy’s parliament his people were clinging to survival.

Leaders from the 27-nation bloc will gather in Brussels on Thursday to discuss its response to Moscow’s onslaught on Ukraine, including a longer-term financial support mechanism beyond the €1.2bn in emergency funding already agreed.
