Ladbrokes claimed £101.5m furlough money despite online profits

Bookmaker’s parent company benefited as households turned to online gambling during lockdowns

The bookmaker Ladbrokes has claimed nearly £102m from the UK government’s furlough scheme, despite sales in online bets soaring during the pandemic.

According to accounts published at Companies House, the company made claims of £57.5m in 2020. A further £44m was claimed in 2021.
