Ankar, a startup using AI agents to help inventors secure patents for new intellectual property, has secured a £3m seed investment.
The company’s AI platform, trained on scientific and legal data, is designed to speed up the process of registering new technologies.
With the platform, inventors can submit their proposal and the system can identify gaps, assess originality and draft a patent submission. The Ankar platform also detects infringements and identifies new licensing opportunities.
“Recent developments in artificial intelligence signal a seismic shift in how humanity invents,” said Tamar Gomez, co-founder of Ankar.
“As AI becomes more deeply integrated with the invention process, we’re about to witness an explosion in the rate of discovery. Ankar is positioning itself at the centre of this transformation by building the operating system of innovation.”
Fellow co-founder Wiem Gharbi added: “Improving efficiency is only the beginning – building AI into the invention process, along with the inventors, allows inventors to fundamentally expand the horizons of what we can imagine creating.”
Both Gharbi and Gomez previously worked at US software giant Palantir.
The investment round was led by Index Ventures and included participation from Daphni, Motier, Booom and Puzzle Ventures.
“Tamar and Wiem are redefining how innovation is captured, protected, and commercialized — turning IP from a defensive legal asset into a strategic growth lever,” said Index Ventures partner Hannah Seal.
“As innovation and R&D lie at the heart of economic growth and progress more broadly, we are excited to back Ankar on their mission to empower more teams to turn bold ideas into lasting outcomes.”
