Engine B announces appointment of Franki Hackett, ACA, as Head of Audit and Ethics

Engine B, a next generation AI-driven audit technology company, today announced the appointment of Franki Hackett as Head of Audit and Ethics. Hackett brings a wealth of experience gained designing and implementing next-generation data technologies into audit and assurance, as well as an academic background in critical accounting, audit ethics and tax transparency.

Hackett joins Engine B from the UK National Audit Office, where she was Head of Financial Audit Analytics, managing the data analytics team for the financial audit side of the business. She project-managed the build of the office’s cloud data storage platform and was responsible for managing a team of data scientists, planning analytics, collaborating on the office’s data and digital strategy, and maintaining the quality of the code performed. She has recently returned from an international academic secondment where she worked on the accessibility of transnational corporate tax data.

At Engine B, Hackett will be responsible for maintaining ethical standards internally, keeping the company on track to drive futureproof and ethical change in the audit market, and ensuring its tools meet the rigorous standards of compliance needed to deliver assurance and trust. She will also oversee a programme of research into experimental technologies, making sure Engine B continues pushing the boundary of what’s possible in audit.

Engine B was founded in 2019, in partnership with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), as a direct response to the strong appetite for change within professional services.

Today, Engine B is rapidly building next-generation data and AI products for the audit, tax and legal sectors. The bedrock of its platform is Common Data Models and Knowledge Graphs. When used together, this powerful combination allows the auditor, lawyer or tax expert to access one source of normalised/standard data then use Knowledge Graphs on top to analyse the data with a context-driven view.

The Engine B consortium is comprised of 13 audit firms, four academic institutions and one technology house. It extracts key intellectual property, which goes into the Engine B platform to accelerate current and next-generation services, and to support firms and companies in advancing their own digital growth.

Franki Hackett, Head of Audit and Ethics, Engine B said: “I’m delighted to join Engine B at an exciting time in the company’s journey. The Engine B consortium includes deeply experienced professionals who are already building the new products and platforms that the audit industry needs to regain its success and relevance in the long term. I cannot wait to get started.”

Shamus Rae, Founder and CEO, Engine B said: “We are hugely excited to have Franki onboard. Her involvement will be invaluable as we forge ahead and co-create solutions that will positively disrupt and transform financial services.”
