Met police request support from army after officers down firearms

Officers in Greater London’s police force have put down weapons in protest at colleague’s murder charge

The Metropolitan police has called on the army to provide counter-terrorism support, amid a protest by firearms officers who downed their weapons after a colleague was charged with murder.

Suella Braverman ordered a review of armed policing on Sunday to calm a growing rebellion in response to the charging on Wednesday of a police officer for the fatal shooting of 24-year-old Chris Kaba, who was unarmed when he was killed.
