Forefront RF, a fabless semiconductor startup based in Cambridge, has secured £6.7m to further its work in the radio frequency (RF) market.
The University of Bristol spinout is developing chips that operate on mobile data frequency bands that aim to simplify the design of smartphones, wearable tech, and internet of things (IoT) devices.
The company has developed “Adaptive Passive Cancellation” technology to redesign the radio frequency in these devices, which the company claims can simplify the design of frequency-agnostic devices.
“We’re delighted to receive further investment from BGF to support the delivery of the next stage of Forefront RF’s growth strategy,” said company CEO Ronald Wilting.
Wilting described his company as “well positioned to capitalise on strong global growth prospects, addressing an industry-wide challenge with our cutting-edge technology”.
The latest investment round for the semiconductor designer included a follow-on investment from the Business Growth Fund (BGF), which participated in its £1.5m seed round in 2021.
“Forefront RF has developed a leading technology solution and highly compelling proposition for a rapidly growing global customer base,” said Dennis Atkinson, an investor at BGF.
“We look forward to continuing our work with Ronald and the talented Forefront RF team as they embark on their next stage of growth.”
Science Creates Ventures and Foresight Group also participated in the round.
