UKTN Podcast: Academy of Robotics CEO on ChatGPT in robots & disrupting autonomous delivery

Will conversational AI models like ChatGPT be integrated into companion robots? Do they need to be? William Sachiti, the CEO and founder of the Academy of Robotics, shares his view on these questions in the latest episode of the UKTN Podcast.

Sachiti is a serial entrepreneur and inventor who moved to the UK from Zimbabwe in the early 2000s. By his mid-30s he had set up and successfully exited three companies. He founded the Academy of Robotics in 2017, which has gone on to develop Europe’s first autonomous delivery vehicle for the road, Kar-go.

He tells UKTN Podcast host Jane Wakefield the business strategy behind disrupting package deliveries with autonomous vehicles, and why he doesn’t think mass-market driverless cars will be on the road any time soon.

The Academy of Robotics has also created self-driving technology used by the RAF and a penguin-shaped indoor helper robot for hospitals, currently being trialled at the NHS.

Elsewhere on the show, Sachiti shares the lessons he learned growing up in rural Zimbabwe, what attracts him to a particular venture, and why he bought an old airfield to set up a base of operations.
