Warner Music Group backs metaverse startup Anything World

Metaverse startup Anything World has secured $7.5m (£6.6m) in a “series seed plus” round, with contributions coming from the likes of Warner Music Group.

Anything World’s platform uses artificial intelligence to build 3D environments that can be used in AR and VR experiences.

Gordon Midwood, CEO of Anything World, said: “The capacity for anyone to create immersive and accessible experiences in virtual and 3D worlds has been expanded substantially by this funding round.”

Based in London, Anything World has previously worked with the Ministry of Sound on a voice-activated Snapchat filter and Ubisoft’s Rabbids franchise.

The new capital gives the VR startup two years of runway and will be used to grow its team. Anything World is also launching a 3D model rigging and animation system.

Further funding in the round came from Alumni Ventures, Acrew Capital, NGC Ventures, Supernode Ventures, GameTech Ventures, and GFR Fund. It brings the total investment into the firm to $9.3m (£8.2m).

Vishal Lugani, founding partner at Acrew Capital, said: “To start, Anything World is leveraging machine learning to tackle the problem of animation and rigging. Developers and designers of games, virtual worlds, and immersive experiences shouldn’t have to toil for hours and hours to bring their characters to life.”

The latest backing of an AI firm by Warner Music Group follows its investment in the AI music company LifeScore, which had an £11m Series A in March.
