London-based fintech Plum expands to Belgium

Finance app Plum is expanding its services to Belgium, partnering with nine banks in the region.

Headquartered in London, Plum is an app that connects to existing bank accounts that uses automation to help customers save, invest and budget their money.

Founded in 2016 by former Wise executive Victor Trokoudes, Plum also offers a pro account that provides more features.

“Launching in Belgium is the latest major milestone in our expansion, demonstrating we truly are a European company. The intelligence of our app means we can offer a smart alternative to traditional tools and help people make their money go further in multiple ways,” said Victor Trokoudes, co-founder and CEO, Plum.

Plum’s expansion into Belgium means it now operates in France, Spain and Ireland, along with its home UK market.

According to Plum, the app has 1.3 million users. Plum has plans to launch an investment feature that will let Belgians invest in US stocks. It recently brought stock investing for UK users of the platform.

Trokoudes added: “We’re excited about the new features we will offer soon, including providing retail investors a simple, low-cost and accessible way to invest for the long-term.”

Last year Plum raised £18m in its Series A round and its total funding stands at $43m (£35.7m).

Investment app Lightyear recently raised £21m in its Series A, which included backing from Virgin Group founder Sir Richard Branson.
