Noissue acquires London QR code firm Tapkit for ‘$2.3m’

Auckland-based sustainable packaging maker Noissue has acquired London-based dynamic QR code and microsite platform Tapkit.

Tapkit’s employees will move to Noissue’s global product, design and engineering team to work on implementing its QR technology into Noissue’s packaging.

Tapkit additionally creates microsites – websites that are focused towards mobile devices. Noissue makes sustainable packaging that is compostable, recycled and reusable.

According to TechCrunch, the deal is “valued at $2.3m and brings Noissue’s valuation to $100m”.

“From makeup how-to guides, or cooking instructional videos to collecting feedback, enabling quick re-orders and running UGC competitions, the opportunities to create and integrate digital experiences that enhance a consumer’s physical experience with a brand and product are endless, and we’re proud to be merging packaging and technology to power this future,” said Matt Alcock, founder and CEO, Tapkit.

Noissue says that using QR codes on its packaging will make it a “more sustainable solution” compared to packaging inserts. The QR codes can also be scanned to show how to dispose of packaging.

Tapkit’s clients include L’Oreal, NYX, Haus, TRIBE and Little Cooks.

Noissue raised $10m in its Series A in November 2021 led by Felix Capital and is its first acquisition.

In a report by Data Bridge it is estimated that global connected packaging will increase by $31bn by 2027.

In 2021, UK impact tech startups raised £2bn, up from £1.7bn in 2020.
