Premier League announces record 42 positive Covid cases in week’s testing

  • Manchester United waiting for ruling on game at Brentford
  • Brighton and Aston Villa confirm positive cases

The Premier League has announced a record high 42 new positive Covid cases from one week of testing players and club staff. The figure, from 3,805 tests across seven days to Sunday, was released hours after Manchester United closed the first-team area of their training complex and waited to learn from the league whether their game at Brentford on Tuesday will go ahead.

United shut part of Carrington for 24 hours after positive Covid tests among players and staff and delayed their travel to London. The club detected a relatively small number of cases via lateral flow tests after Saturday’s 1-0 win at Norwich and training on Monday was cancelled in light of PCR test confirmation.
