On Thursday, to celebrate its eighth year as a founding partner for London Tech Week, Tech London Advocates launched a new Young Entrepreneurs group. Led by Femi Owolade-Coombes, an award-winning 15-year old young entrepreneur himself, the group will develop a global network of young tech talent looking to start and scale tech companies in London and across the UK.
The network is set to be the first, and largest, independent and private sector network specifically designed to accelerate the growth of tech startups and scaleups being led by young people aged between 18 and 30 in the UK and globally.
The group will ensure a new generation of highly skilled young tech entrepreneurs have access to the investment, talent and commercial skills they need to realise their potential.
Reflecting the scale of the opportunity facing a new generation of young people equipped with coding skills, entrepreneurial ambition and high levels of digital awareness, Tech London Advocates: Young Entrepreneurs is aiming to attract 1,000 young people as Advocates in its first year.
The launch event took place on Thursday the s3rd of September during London Tech Week at the University of Arts London: Creative Computing Institute. It’s backed by Russ Shaw CBE, founder of Tech London Advocates and Global Tech Advocates, and the group’s co-lead, Grace Owolade-Coombes who is experienced at building inclusive networks, the launch event will feature young people from the UK, China, Africa and the ASEAN regions, sharing their experiences.
Fast-paced talks will cover how to prepare your business to attract investment opportunities, how to support the growth of young entrepreneurs in different regions of the world and the event will close with a micro-masterclass from TikTok on how to use social media to promote your business.
Alongside Informa and London & Partners, Tech London Advocates is a founding partner of London Tech Week and TLA:YE is just one of a number of announcements coming from the private sector tech network during the Festival.
Global Tech Advocates has announced the launch of three new overseas networks. Tech Australia Advocates, Tech Berlin Advocates and Tech Korea Advocates will be joining the 20 existing GTA networks – five of which are in the UK and the rest spread across Europe, the Americas and Asia.
GTA also announced new Working Groups at London Tech Week, including GTA Quantum and GTA FoodTech. These will be international campaign groups raising awareness of sector-specific innovation around the world.
The TLA Immigration Working Group, one of the first Working Groups established by the network and a campaign body responsible for putting digital skills on the Shortage Occupation List for the first time, is re-launching its website with a detailed summary of the immigration visa routes open to international tech talent.
