Goodwood Festival of Speed: Future Lab presented by bp is back and better than ever

The first two days of Future Lab presented by bp at the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard saw thousands of visitors experience a fascinating raft of engaging exhibits including a flying car from PAL-V, the latest Mars rover from Airbus, 3D printed vitamins from Nourished, stories of deep ocean exploration from Nekton – and plenty more.

Younger audiences were particularly taken with haptics from Ultraleap, robotics from RACE and the mind-controlled Scalextric racing installation from Emotiv. Visitors were invited to get interactive with various innovations, from Small Robot Company’s agricultural robots to Einride’s exhibit, where multiple autonomous trucks could be controlled remotely.

Meanwhile, car enthusiasts still got their fix, via a range of futuristic electric vehicles including Oxford Robotics Institute’s Sense-Assess-eXplain project vehicle, a hybrid ultracapacitor from NAWA, a mobility-focused EV from MOTIV and Heatherwick Studios’ AIRO – a car that cleans the air as it drives.

Day one of Future Lab 2021 was also punctuated by the launch and first public demonstration of Gravity Industries’ electric jet suit, drawing a huge audience from Festival of Speed visitors and media alike.

The incredible custom-built Future Lab exhibit has open sides this year which amplify the experience, allowing event goers to stay in touch with the action on the track and feel comfortable about being inside around people once more.

Commenting on the success of the exhibit, Lucy Johnston, Curator of Future Lab said, “I’m hugely grateful to all the exhibitors and partners who are participating this year and for the opportunity to tell the stories of some of the most innovative and forward-thinking visions of future technology and science from around the world.

“The comments and feedback we’ve already received make all the extra work the team has put in this year totally worthwhile – and it’s been such a pleasure to see visitors once again able to interact hands-on, view demonstrations and visit the future. These truly are some of the most ground-breaking and exciting technologies out there, that are revolutionising industries and enhancing the world we live in, and we look forward to welcoming many more visitors over the weekend.”

Future Lab is part of the Goodwood Festival of Speed presented by Mastercard. This year’s event is running as a pilot event as part of the UK Government’s Events Research Programme (ERP).
