A Swansea University academic has received a double accolade for his expertise at teaching Information Systems.
Yogesh Dwivedi, professor of Digital Marketing and Innovation, has just been named as IACIS Computer Educator of the Year – and becomes the first UK academic to receive the prestigious award.
He was honoured for his services to his academic discipline and will be given his award at the body’s annual conference later this year.
Professor Dwivedi, who is also co-director of research at the University’s School of Management, said: “To say that this award has come as a surprise is a huge understatement: I never expected this. I am thankful and humbled to be rewarded for various activities I have been involved in, ranging from community service to scholarship.
“To have my efforts recognised by other esteemed professionals is both a surprise and a privilege, especially given the notable past recipients of this award.
“I thank the selection committee from the bottom of my heart and look to continue building on the work that I have been doing over the past years alongside my colleagues.”
He was nominated by Professor Alex Koohang, Dean & Professor of Information Technology at Middle Georgia State University, USA, who described him as a brilliant scholar with a remarkable record.
He said: “Professor Dwivedi’s scholarly activities are well-known to the IS community. He is a prolific researcher and writer, publishing numerous refereed articles and editing several well-known academic journals, including the International Journal of Information Management. He has indeed made significant contributions to his field and is a well-deserved recipient of this award.”
In addition, Professor Dwivedi is now ranked among the UK’s top 30 computer science and electronics scientists by Guide2Research. In a list dominated by academics from Oxford, Cambridge, UCL and Imperial College, London, he is one of only two Swansea University scientists included in the list – Professor Alan Dix, director of the Computational Foundry appears in the top 250.
Head of the School of Management Professor Paul Jones described Professor Dwivedi’s achievements as fantastic.
He said: “This is a great accomplishment – and thoroughly deserved. Yogesh’s dedication to his teaching and research is second to none. He has a global reputation as an international scholar who is shaping and informing his research field.
“We are exceptionally proud to have him as part of our School of Management, and the Swansea University community.”
