Myanmar: acting civilian leader pledges ‘revolution’ against junta

Mahn Win Khaing Than, speaking for first time since coup, says ‘this is the darkest moment of the nation’ as death toll mounts

The acting leader of Myanmar’s parallel civilian government has vowed to pursue a “revolution” to overturn the junta and said he will seek to give people the legal right to defend themselves against the military.

Mahn Win Khaing Than, who is on the run along with most senior officials from the National League for Democracy party, which was ousted in the 1 February coup, addressed the public via Facebook, saying: “This is the darkest moment of the nation and the moment that the dawn is close.”
